Sally Crabtree - who is she ? She's an ex world class gymnast doing for poetry what Olga Korbut did for gymnastics, At the age of 14 Sally won a scholarship to train in Russia as a gymnast and went on to become the youngest member of the GB team performing around the world. And now it is this same vivacity and originality that is making her one of the most exciting new voices on the poetry circuit today.
Her first collection ‘ Love Cafe ’ was published last year as a result of time spent writing in the cafes of Paris . It is appropriately in the shape of a coffee pot ! Carrying on this theme, Sally also toured her one-woman show ‘ Bed of Roses Love cafe ’ in 2006.
With her cartwheeling poems and magical ‘ Poetree ’ a copper tree whose fruits are the most strange and wonderful imaginable ( pick an object off the tree and listen to the song or poem it inspires ) she is turning the poetry world upside down !
She’s the magic ingredient that turns a normal event into an unforgettable one. She takes a quirky look at life and gives tender answers in the form of performance poetry, songs and live art.
She has been invited to perform at top literary festivals in the UK as well as such diverse events as the Venice Biennale, the V&A, Glastonbury Festival, Lover’s Day, Barcelona, Shakespeare and Co. Paris, Cuernivaca and Mexico City, the National Portrait Gallery, Scotland and the International Festival de Poesie in Genoa.
