The Poetree: Object Project

The Object Project invited members of the public to bring forward objects that were precious to them and that had a story to tell. It involved education and community workshops and a travelling roadshow where people could bring along their objects, meet experts, poets, songwriters, artists and animators and be inspired to create the contents of a Cabinet of Curiosities that had its very own mini cinema screen and memory jukebox. The Cabinet went on display at the fabulous Penlee House Gallery and Museum who collaborated on the project which was made possible by the HLF - thank you to them!

It was really exciting to discover what it is that makes an object special to someone. Objects and the stories behind them are something that we all have in common and this was a project that bought all walks of the community together.

One of the highlights for me was Mr Eddy and his cauliflower cake moulds - he's the last in a line of family bakers and he bought forward some fascinating objects - some of which looked like instruments of torture ! I still can't work out why anyone would have wanted a cauliflower cake but it inspired an edible poetry/cake exhibition at the Exchange gallery which also commissioned artists to create work inspired by objects.

Special guest was Italian poet and director Claudio Pozzani who bought the house down with his amazing performance.

The Object Project is hoping to go on tour round the country - so if you have any interesting objects or have been inspired by objects to be creative - let me know !
